Take to heart what you need, but also remember that golf is a personalized, individual-type sport, made more fun when played with a buddy or group! What works for ONE person, might not always merely translate well and exactly as for another. GOLF IS ABOUT FUN, EXCITEMENT, CHALLENGE and SHARED ENJOYMENT! Relaxing and working on those aspects of your own and others’ game that you know can improve might make it better for all round. Do not get MAD, get BUSY getting BETTER! SPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT, CANDOR and ETIQUETTE (GOLFING/RULES/COURSE) This is a game of tradition and respect. Do not critique or criticize. Find ways to constructively demonstrate all of the above! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! That is the secret! Focus on the hardest challenges and try to figure out how and where you can help others improve and enjoy their game as well. Constantly raise the bar, both personally and professionally and reap the reward of instant referral and business growth! Putting greens, driving ranges and even indoor swing-analysis and workshop type golf schools and training seminars, even miniature golf courses can help you improve your skill-set all round. Also helping you develop your teaching/coaching/ educational arsenal. Training guides, books and aides abound on the topic of golf. FIND, STICK WITH and practice your natural swing. Especially if you cannot get to the golf course as often as you would like, find ways, aides and exercises that will help you make the most of your golf game and “free” your golf! Use a training club and practice often, building your strength and mastery gradually and systematically. Work on stability training , natural, unforced swing action and balance with practice drills and mock-swings. Try simulated hand movements like hand-shakes and hitchhiking to better you grip, placement and relaxing your fingers, hand and wrist better. Pause think and then follow through. Focus on power, acceleration and finish for the perfectly balance swing. Complete the semi-circles by practicing your up and down swing Be sensitive and aware of how and when your body moves, any jerks of unnatural movements. Some muscle and weight training (for legs and arms, even torso, some core and strength training) will help you in the power and swing departments as well Practice striking the ball well, low and sending it soaring into the wind. Utilize what nature has given and is giving you. Vary the shots, power, range and hits to get used to what and where you natural strengths and weaknesses (development areas) are. Utilize BOTH lift and loft, curbing hooking and slicing, getting a finer handle on controlling club, swing, motion, action, thought, target, ball – synergize all these elements, which are so much more than their collective sum-total! Practice your stance, balance, tempo, and rhythm. Be as natural and as close and relaxed as you can possibly be for the optimal results. Consistency will come with time, but pick your favorite practice drills and routines, driving range work-up and even have FUN while getting better and just hitting some balls around. Work with a plan that plans to work! If you want to really put your mind to work, practice your putting with a small coin as opposed to a golf ball. It will help you focus, concentrate and strike better. When practicing your putting edge, try to hole five shots in a row, from different angles and distances. Be very conscious of any position, adjustment or movement of your eyes, hands, head, and shoulders, others parts of your body that can affect the process and outcome of your golf game. Visioning and projection techniques also work well – try and “see” in your minds eye where the shot is meant and intended to go and then play it. Blind-putting, utilizing all your other senses except for the obvious (your eyes) will help you develop a keen sense of trust in some of your other mastery and skills that you might not even know that you are putting to work, until you remove one from the equation and enjoy the fruits of the other kicking in and gearing it up a notch or two. No sudden jerks or movements and keeping your head still is essential to ensure that ball actually goes where you intend it to! Anticipate and read the greens – guess where you think the ball is going to go, try and it, again and again from different angels, stances, to see what actually happens, at and to slopes, hills and downgrades for example. Get to know your clubs and equipment, putters, drivers, wedges and more. Learn how to make gravity work effectively for you, sinking the put, not allowing it to break away. Practices greens are great places to focus and get to know distances and identify problems that you might have with certain aspects of your game. Keeping your eye on the ball sound mundane, but very few newbies and novices get it right the first time, every time! Clubfaces and bunker shots, short-game challenges can all be addressed separately and/or collectively in gradually sessions, to build and refine your skills over time. This will help you MORE when you are helping and playing with others. Sand-traps and hazards, greens, fairways – they are all fair game, so have fun experimenting and getting to discover your own game, honing and harnessing your own skills AND those of others (if you so choose). Different lies and chip-shots, so-called trick shots, holes in one etc. can all contribute to making the most of your game, but should not be the main aim of your efforts or teaching! FREE golf is not only about the money, equipment and dollars saved in your pocket, it is also about becoming and being a better player and ambassador to and for the game! |
